From: "Ray Lewis" To: "Mick Draper" Cc: "Christine Sutton" Subject: Trav expo Technopolis Brussels Date: Wednesday, October 09, 2002 17:23 Hi Mick, Here is a brief resumé of the expo at Technopolis, Mechelen, near Brussels. Technopolis is the newest Science centre in Belgium and is situated at Mechelen some 30kms NE of Brussels. * Expo opened 8 March 2002. * Expo closed 21 July 2002. * 19 weeks total * 98'219 visitors * 53'882 were scholl groups from 903 schools * 44'059 were individuals and families * 234 were part of other groups (19 groups) The number of visiting the CERN exhibition was not counted separately, but this has rarely been the case. Only one or two venues have done this Expo evaluation: during period 627 visitors filled in form relating to TECHNOPOLIS and the appreciation of its in house and temporary expo (in this case the CERN Expo) Results * 42 excellent * 70 good * 27 medium * 9 bad * 62 no opinion Other events * Inauguration, 341 guest, combined launch of "Couln't be without it", included the participation of Ph. Busquin. CERN represented by H. Hoffman. A first the CERNETTES were invited to animate the inauguration. * Some press coverage but not much SUMMARY No major technical problems, good event with respect to infrastructure. However, probably the least successful venue, majority of visitors too young. Very little support from Belgian Physics Community No conferences or Seminars orgaised No guides supplied. Hope this helps Cheers for now Ray PS. Still a request from Manchester for Expo. Sept 2003. As yet no decision on our participation, in fact I have not spoken to Rolf or Juan Antoio. There is also a request from Hungary but no dates or venue has been proposed by them as yet. However this still shows interest within the MS.
