Description
Those science based ideas that could be made practically useful are not always realised in commercial or any other form. To increase the chance that science based ideas are tested it is necessary to enhance awareness among the scientists and PhD students about the possibilities. The best way is to create role models, early examples of successfully commercialised scientific and/or technical ideas. Personal knowledge and awareness through media are important routes. Secondly, It is important to educate students, scientists and others. Important topics are patents and other IPR aspects, financing; sources to approach at the appropriate time and business plan writing in order to clarify the business idea and model to oneself and others. In Stockholm, several structures have been developed around the university world to facilitate commercialisation of science based ideas. Examples are university companies such as Karolinska Innovations AB, cross-disciplinary university projects such as Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship and other activities e.g. Venture Cup and Connect.
