Description
Several high intensity cyclotrons have been studied in the framework of the Energy Amplifier proposed by C. Rubbia. After summarising the results of beam dynamics studies for investigating space charge effects and the criteria for getting highly efficient extraction processes, two basic designs will be presented. These two schemes allow to investigate an hybrid cyclotron-linac system, where the beam extracted from the cyclotron is available for further acceleration in LEP-2 superconducting cavities adapted for reduced beta.
