Description
The dynamic aperture (DA) of the LHC is defined as the maximum initial particle amplitude which is still contained within a given boundary (vacuum chamber) for a given number of turns. For the LHC the DA at injection is dominated by the field error contributions from the main dipole magnets and their correction circuit powering. The DA of the LHC is affected by a partial or total failure of these correction systems. A study of these failure scenarios is shown and a method for setting part of these correction systems is presented. The seminar concludes with a presentation of preliminary new code for simulating the time dependent field errors of the magnets and provides an outlook on future studies.
