Description
Perturbative scattering amplitudes in gravity theories can in general be expressed in terms of sums of 'squares' of gauge theory amplitudes. These tree-level relations may be most easily understood within the context of string theory. We will discuss how this is leading to an improved understanding of certain properties of quantum gravity theories, including their ultraviolet divergence properties.
