Description

CERN has been founded with two objectives - promote science and create trust between people of different countries, traditions and mentalities, the origin of the second one being less well known. Recently SESAME, a synchrotron radiation laboratory for the Middle East has been created near Amman following the objectives and procedures of CERN. The status of this project will be described. Sometimes doubts are expressed that cooperation in science has any positive consequences outside the scientific domain. Examples proving that such an opinion is not true will be given.
