Description
Recently the final result from the muon g-2 experiment E821 at Brookhaven National Laboratory was announced. The anomalous magnetic moment of the negative muon has been measured to a precision of 0.7 parts per million. This result is based on data collected in 2001 at the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron. It is over an order of magnitude more precise than the previous measurement of the negative muon by the last CERN g-2 experiment (1974-1979). After a review of experimental set-up and data analysis, the new result will be compared with the latest measurements for positive muons and with predictions based on the Standard Model.
