Tier-2 Evolution: Jobs in VMs

ATLAS VMs & news 
 - Running stably with "vacuum" VMs for many months
 - Need to improve MyProxy procedures
 - Oxford, Manchester, Lancaster, CERN, ...
 - Add multicore pilot wrapper options
 - Better way of checking pilot script is up to date

CMS VMs & news 
 - Latest CernVM recognises GlideinWMS user data
 - Tested on OpenNebula at RAL and Imperial
 - Currently separate from 

LHCb VMs & news 
 - Need multicore VMs for new CERN procurement
 - Intend to have parallel elastic MCs inside VM
 - Looking at how to do WLCG LHCb SAM tests in VMs

Security tests in VMs
 - How to do RPM version style tests?
 - Security group be able to get VMs and run
   tests on them directly?

Smaller VOs
 - Need pilot based system to use all this
 - So would need to go to GridPP DIRAC (eg Pheno at Durham)

Site updates relating to Vac, Cloud, and VMs 
 - UCL upgraded to current web-managed Vac-in-a-Box
 - Call for smaller sites to volunteer to try Vac
   (Durham interested)

Tier-2 Evolution: Storage
-------------------------

Dynamic federation could simplifies sites
Interest at ATLAS software week
 eg xrootd service
Go to smaller Tier-2 "silo sites" with caching
 - Still have larger Tier-2s with long term storage
 - SLAC xrootd implementation should be able to do this
 - Data reuse problem: cache misses
 - Not feasible to tell what a site has cached from outside
 - Attach smaller Tier-2s to larger and direct jobs that
   need the larger site's data to them

Bristol, 250TB HPFS, mostly local users files, 5Gb/s 
 ~200 CMS jobs

Other updates from the Storage Group
