Dear Mar and Christophe first of all thanks a lot for your work bringing GIF++ to a new significant step. Thanks to Ilias to. Due to personal reasons I cannot be present to the meeting next Thursday but  Antonello di Mauro will be there for ALICE and I could participate by phone (EVO would even be better). You can find hereafter some comments and questions on the proposed text. Ciao Alfredo. ----------------------- 3.1 the beam time allocated to GIF++ will be short (~6 weeks versus ~6 months we had in the past...) An additional constraint during CMS beam use is that access will be conditioned by CMS. I also suppose that during CMS accesses to their area GIF source must be off (probably this is not so relevant) 3.2 Where is the "... beam area close to the GIF++ to commission ..."? I suspect that the Preparation Area (PA) will be used just for mechanical mounting (at least in the case of complex detectors) because of the work needed for cabling, gas connections and so on If I understand well the procedure should be: - assembly of the detector and support in the PA - transport of the system from the PA to the area in front of the Porte Coulissante (PC), width ~160 cm? [10/f coordinates are visible zooming Fig. 3] with the crane - installation in the Radiation Area (RA) with horizontal translation (floor must be completely free from cables and other; cable trays must be located on top and this will reduce the available height in part of the RA) - cabling, gas connection and final electronics check inside the RA may be, if the height under the cable tray on the Saleve-side of H4 is enough, one could imagine to use an area in the "Zone de stockage" 8/c as PA? Questions and comments: - is it foreseen to have some racks for electronics at half-way between the detector and the counting rooms? - where is sent the hot air produced in the big "Climatiseur" [5/h-i]? - you should take into account that answering to the Questionnaire the users (at least it is my case) indicated the detector size (equipped with read-out) and not the full size with the support; this could increase considerably the footprint, especially if the system centered at 2 m height has to move on wheels. ------------------- Final Table Final preparation area: cohabitation of more than 3 groups is perhaps optimistic Beam extraction system ... : I strongly prefer Wire chambers ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Alfredo MUSSO INFN-Sezione di Torino 1, via P.
