During the seminar, the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM, Branch Lab Dresden, will be introduced to the audience. First, an overview will be given about the expertise, capabilities and interests of the research and development at Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden. In particular, activities in the fields of materials for thermal management, additive manufacturing, high-temperature resistant materials and light metals will be highlighted. From the variety of current and past projects at the institute, examples were chosen to demonstrate the activities in powder metallurgy in more detail. Presentations of two current projects with CERN in the field of joining are included, namely bonding cuprous alloys with stainless steel as well as refractory metals like tungsten, tantalum and molybdenum alloys.
