PS report (D. Cotte): PS availability 90 % this week. There have been some problems on a magnet in the East Area T11 line.
SPS report (V. Kain): SPS availability 89% this week. A 600Hz noise developed on the QD circuit, resulting from a PLC controlling the active filters. (1hour)
Affecting the fixed target physics:
The ion beams for the NA area are ready, final energies setup will happen during Xe run. To prepare the Xe beam to be injected in the LHC ~2 days will be needed with Xe in parallel MD.
Currently the restart of the NA is delayed, as a water leak needs to be fixed in TDC2.
EAST AREA
T8 Irrad & CHARM (F. Ravotti, by E-mail):
T9 BL4S (B. Ristic):
The magnet was installed, preparing the detectors. The students are doing the Safety training.
T10 ALICE ITS (P. Martinengo):
Every thing OK.
T10 ACORDE (P. Martinengo): ACORDE will not come, beam time to be used by ITS and MRPCs.
T11 (S. Schuchmann): Today CLOUD will test the Hodoscopes.
nTOF: absent.
NORTH AREA
H2 SHiP (R. Jacobsson): Good so far, only a couple of hours late w.r.t planed program. Calorimeter till Sunday, then liquid scintillator. It is still the plan to allow a couple of days to the CMS-HGCAL at the end of the run.
H4 NA64 (V. Poliakov): See slides.. Currently needing 45 units on T2, will request an increase by the end of next week.
H6 ALICE muons (H. Borel by E-mail):
The Test beam went smoothly and was very successful.
We had a much better noise compared to PS T10 and could reach the expected spatial resolution (< 100 microns) on our detectors.
Thanks to the team for the help of the beam setup.
H6 ATLAS AFP (A. Rummler): Will need a somewhat wider beam as before ø ~ 2cm.
H8 ATLAS TileCal (J. Bernhard): They had a good run, they wish to continue parasitically to HVCMOS.
H8 ATLAS HVCMOS (): Will be using 3 telescopes, no problem to host TileCal.
H8 Mu-e (M. Garattini): The detectors are ready, using UA9 equipment. J. Bernhard commented it will be difficult to add a cherenkov detector in PPE128.
NA62 (M. Piccini): The copper shielding was installed during the Technical Stop. This should suppress the newly identified background. Results should be visible by the end of the run.
NA58 (J. Barth): TE/EPC is checking on the the 18kV transformer for SM2 magnet. It shows problems when switching polarity.
UA9 in Coast (S. Montesano): It always takes a few hours to re-establish a good coasting beam. V. Kain commented that the long time span between UA9 runs allowed accumulation of small changes to the operational settings of the SPS, their impact on the Coast beam then need to be debugged.
This run one of this years main goal was achieved, namely the deflection of beam halo particles in a series of 2 crystals, to be used in collimation.
