The 2017 CUES CERN Hack theme is "Smart infrastructure, Intelligent System & Optimisation". It is assumed that particle accelerators and the associated equipment are likely to consume quite a large amount of energy / electricity and if CERN has the data on it one thing the teams can do is to do some data science work on it and come up with an optimisation strategy to possibly save energy usage and a good sum of money. Also the optimisation of infrastructure topic is quite a valuable topic in many societies, a lot of resources wasted because of the way of using them are not optimised. The students are quite keen on things related to Machine Learning, Data Science and Internet of Things, which are quite well linked to optimisation work.
The event is organized in collaboration with The Port, CERN Knowledge Transfer Group and IdeaSquare.
