Follow-up of open actions

A reminder should be sent to:

• G. Petrika (2017-08-31): Prepare a document summarizing the ventilation needs for LIU-PSB.
• T. Dobers (2017-08-31): Make a list of starting points of the transfer lines to be sent for approval in an EDMS document
• M. Calviani / I. Lamas (2017-09-01): Prepare the ECR for the PSB scraper/absorber describing both the dismantling of the current equipment and the installation of the new one.
• C. Hessler (2017-09-01): Send the new MAD-X file to I. Efthymiopoulos and T. Birtwistle for the upgrade of the LIU-PSB and current MAD-X optics, and also the layout database.

Report on the Installation of the New Wire Scanner during TS (Raymond Veness)

• The new fast wire scanner in ring 3 needs to be changed because the optical disk, which is made of glass, is slipping.
• The whole wire scanner will be changed by another one during the Technical Stop 3, where the clamping system has been improved. A dedicated pump will be in place to reduce the installation time.
• The wire scanner is currently being tested by TE-VSC and will be ready for installation 2 or 3 days after their approval.
• The glass disk currently used might be replaced in the future by a metal one, which is easier to clamp.
• B. Mikulec remarked that the new fast wire scanner is not yet available for operation, but it is being commissioned by Beam Instrumentation.

LIU-PSB EVM Update (Sylvie Prodon)

The schedule variance has increased from 1.37 months to 2.73 months since the end of June, probably due to the lack of reporting and slowing down of activities during the summer. Regarding the CERN Expenditure Tracking, there is currently 38% of charges and 77% of commitment for the LIU-PSB project versus the 48% of charges and 79% commitment objectives for the 1^st of September.

Update reports should be sent to S. Prodon by the beginning of September to see where the project really stands.

Follow-up on the Installation Readiness for LS2 (Julie Coupard)

A detailed LS2 schedule for the coordination of the LIU-PSB project, including the Linac 4 connection, is being drafted in an EDMS document. Regarding the current status:

• It is foreseen to dismantle the beam stoppers by the end of 2017, but this task could be delayed to LS2 since there is no clear advantage of doing it before. This will result on a change of operational procedures.
• The chemical cleanness of the surface of the head and tail dumps is currently being checked in preparation for the vacuum acceptance test.
• The EN-EL group should send a forecast for their activities soon.
• It is very important to receive a time estimation of the cabling activities by Georgi Georgiev in order to advance in the schedule.
• The only delay concerns the new absorber in period 8.

Comments

• W. Weterings proposed to increase the level of detail in the TE-VSC section of the document.
• It was agreed that a meeting should be held between BE-ABT, BE-OP, EN-STI and TE-VSC concerning the vacuum acceptance test of the head and tail dumps. Action: Klaus will organize it.
• A follow-up of this topic will be given in the next LIU-PSB WG meeting.

Additional BPMs in the PSB Transfer Lines (G. P. Di Giovanni)

• It is proposed to install an additional BPM in the BI line since currently there is only one (BPM 30) and the injection into the PSB is delicate due to the slicing of the beam in four, prior to injection in the four rings.
• The proposal is to install it as close as possible to the entrance of the septum, where the vertical displacement is maximum.
• If the proposal is approved by the LIU management the topic will be presented to the integration group, with some rough estimations of the BPM dimensions by J. Tan.
• Another proposal for a new BPM in the BTP extraction line was presented in the LIU-PSB WG Meeting #197 by C. Hessler and approved by the LIU management, but the budget still needs approval. It is now estimated that the cost for the BPM in the BTP line is of 20 kCHF and of 50 kCHF for the BI line one. The difference is due to the fact that there is no need for drawings for the BTP BPM.

AOB

Concerning the tour de table:

• G.P. Di Giovanni reported that the strategy for the LIU interlock system has been discussed and will be presented to the LIU management soon. If approved, the EDMS document will be updated.
• W. Weterings said that they are looking for budget for the new lab in building 361 or any other space inside a controlled area.
• J. Borburgh communicated that they finished installing BSW magnets in the mock-up.
• E. Fortescue-Beck reminded that the PSB dependencies on CO for the YETS must be submitted by the end of September.
• J. Coupard reported that the ECR for the semgrid missing. J. Tan will contact Federico Roncarolo on this subject. She also reported that there will be a dedicated meeting about the support of the new BT.BHZ10 magnet.
• F. Schimdt reported that some tests to study the multipolar contribution were done in the SPS and a strong resonance was found at 400 Hz, which was backtracked to a ripple in the current of the quadrupoles. The damping resistors help damp this contribution.
