Approval of minutes

The minutes of the LIU-PSB WG #210 meeting were approved.

Communications

• No LIU PT meeting was held due to the LIU MD Day.
• The LIU MD Day was held the 15^th of March 2018 to address the work needed to reach the LIU parameters.
• The cost and schedule review (CSR) will happen next week and the rehearsal is in preparation, where some additional input is needed. The new baseline will be released only after the CSR.
• LIU-PT meetings were held with the EN-HE, EN-EL, EN-CV, and EN-STI groups (the minutes are available here).
• An LIU Beam Performance Meeting was held to discuss the request for BE-BI equipment for the MDs in 2018.
• The LIU-PSB WG meetings in April (3^rd and 17^th of April) will be held in the meeting room 864-1-B04 instead of 864-2-B14.

Follow-up of open actions

E. Grenier-Boley (2018-03-06): Report about the status of the beam stopper certification for the 2 GeV operations (BTP.STP10). 

• Presented at this meeting, action closed.

I. Efthymiopoulos (2018-04-03): Make a list of starting points of the transfer lines to be sent for approval in an EDMS document.

• I. Efthymiopoulos is currently preparing a document for the whole CERN complex, which will require additional work from other parties. It would be preferable to also have a separate document concerning only the CPS complex.

POPs-B power converter report (Fulvio Boattini)

• The main power converters have arrived (two for operation and one spare).
• The configuration switches are used to select which power converter unit will be working and which one will be connected to the dummy load if there is one.
• The power converters will stay in their current position for two weeks and will be moved closer together after all the interconnections between units are done. This will be completed before Easter.
• The fire detection system related activities have been completed in the main converter hall (steel part of the building).
• The canalization for the air conditioning, which is the last remaining part of the cooling system, and the IT cabling is being completed in the concrete part of the building.
• The high voltage cabling activities will start immediately after Easter and will be carried out by TE-EPC
• The installation of the low voltage switchgear and the low voltage auxiliary cabling will be completed by the end of April and constitutes a critical activity.
• Another critical activity is the hydraulic connection of pipes to the power converter, which needs to be completed by the end of May.
• The modification of the cooling system for the dummy load is well advanced.
• The provision of the transformer, which is an internal activity of TE-EPC, was late because of the length of the procurement process. The construction is now advancing well and the first tests are expected by mid-May.
• In general, there are no show-stoppers. Another short update could be done in May.

Update on the design of the BTP stopper (Edouard Grenier-Boley)

• There are three projects in parallel concerning the beam stopper: LIU PSB-PS, East Area renovation, and PS consolidation. The goal is to standardize the beam stoppers in the complex to simplify related activities, such as the management of spares.
• The beam stopper requirements include keeping a lambda attenuation at the beam stopper of 7.3 lambda, a minimum of two redundant mechanisms in case of failure that are fully fail-safe, a design that is valid for all areas and that is easy to maintain.
• A new core for the beam stopper was selected, made of 490mm of TZM (Titanium Zirconium Molybdenum) with a lambda attenuation of 8 lambda. The first integration study was done by MME and a preliminary final design will be sent to EN-ACE. No modifications of the wall were required.
• The production of the prototype is scheduled for September-October 2018, the production of the beam stoppers for the end of 2018/beginning of 2019, and the installation readiness for April 2020.

Comments

• R. Froeschl asked about the schedule for the PS consolidation and E. Grenier-Boley answered that it will be post-LS2.
• R. Froeschl asked about the redundancy of the system and E. Grenier-Boley said that one stopper is able to stop the whole beam.
• R. Froeschl asked if the lambda attenuation value is the total for all the stoppers together and E. Grenier-Boley answered that it is.
• B. Mikulec commented that the current installation date for the beam stopper is planned for April 2020, which seems rather late and since the production will be done for the beginning of 2019, the work could be advanced. It will be important to discuss the schedule details with D. Hay to see if the work can be anticipated.

Report on the ECRs for LS2 (Thomas William Birtwistle)

Missing ECRs:

• TE-ABT (W. Bartmann): the ECR for the BTP line will now be in a common document for all the extraction lines (BT, BTM, and BTP). Additional input is needed:
  • BI modifications in the BTP line.
  • Installation of new BLMs on the PSB extraction lines.
  • EN-STI beam stopper in the BTP line.
  • All related vacuum changes.
  • Include reference to the ECRs for the BT Line Septa.
• TE-ABT, BE-BI (C. Hessler, L. Soby): add a new BPM on the BI line (upstream of BI.SMV10).
• TE-MSC, TE-VSC, BE-BI (A. Newborough, J. A. Ferreira Somoza): modifications to the Booster extraction main unit and BT1/4.BVT10, BT2/3.DVT10.
• TE-ABT (L. Sermeus): extraction kicker (potential impact on impedance). No integration needed.
• TE-MSC (A. Newborough): upgrade of the BHZ main unit bending magnets.
• TE-EPC (J. M. Cravero): the transformers for the septas and the BT line might be modified. Integration study needed. Currently under study.
• BE-BI:
  • New BLM installations in the LT, LTB and BI lines and for H^- exchange monitoring (C. Zamantzas).
  • Wire Scanners (x8) in the PSB 4L1 and 11L1 (R. Veness).
• EN-STI: removal of both BI beam stoppers (E. Grenier-Boley) + absorbers (I. Lamas Garcia).
• EN-CV (G. Petrika): ventilation, chilled water plant, cooling part.
• EN-ACE (A. Berjillos): finalizing the ECRs related to the Linac4 connection and Linac2 removal.

Comments

• G. P. Di Giovanni asked about the nature of the delays and T. Birtwistle answered that most of them are blocked by integration studies and write-up.

Tour de table

• A. Berjillos Barranco reported that he has contacted G. M. Georgiev concerning the decabling related to the removal of parts of the Linac2, and that the work is ongoing. They are waiting for the integration studies to finish the ECR.
