Chapter outline

•Historic overview, in particular with respect to initial LHC program (1 page)

•Table of “heavy ion” observations, and their current status in pPb and pp (like in  1602.09138)

•Open questions and theoretical implications

–Initial vs final state ((dis)prove hydro?)  What is nature collectivity? vn{2k}, PID, vn-vm.

Require evidence for final state interaction: hydro must mean jet quenching & strangeness/charm enhancement/modifications.

–Jet quenching in small systems: How to search for it & what is required?, vn at high pT, dijet asymmetry etc, modification of hadron-jet correlation. focus on low Q2 jets, understand meaning of centrality.

–Strangeness/charm:   what observables one want to see? enhancement of J/Psi (ALICE),  D0, J/Psi v2 (CMS)  more differentially., similar measurements in pp.

•Two experimental ranges (related to above questions)

–Turn on at low Nch,what else one can do? subevent cumulants

–Transition from pp to pPb to PbPb. How to bridge the gap?

•What can be addressed in Run 2: more results will come in QM2018, update the current statistics.

•What needs Run 3 and 4, what Lint is needed

–Data-taking implications, in particular on Linst / pile up

General Remarks

•Focus on few key questions, and observables with performance plots how to answer them

–If we can agree on those

•Avoid repetitive performance studies from ALICE/ATLAS/CMS

–Can we split them?
