Dear Doctor Aymar,

the University of Bologna sincerely appreciates your initiative for "Establishing a sponsoring consortium for Open Access publishing in particle physics" and fully supports the goals of the Open Access movement. Indeed, in 2003, we set up an open access institutional repository within Alma-DL, the university digital library project. Moreover, according to the recommendation of CRUI (Conference of Italian University Rectors) we signed the Berlin Declaration in 2005 and keep relationships with the national and international organizations supporting OA.

The initiatives of CERN in favour of OA have always been successful and we trust that also this one may obtain the same positive impact. Research in the field of physics has always been supported by a strong international community who may greatly contribute to the affirmation of the new model of scholarly communication.

The University of Bologna offers its support to the initiative as kindly requested by Prof. Francesco Navarria on account of the long-established relationship of collaboration between CERN and CNAF of INFN that is housed at the Physics Dept.

Best regards
