We investigate the feasibility of constraining the photon production rate from a thermal bath of quarks and gluons from lattice QCD.
Photon and dilepton spectra are important observables to interpret, for
example, heavy-ion collision data.
At temperatures close to the QCD crossover temperature, where interactions between constituents are still strong, non-perturbative determinations of the spectra are essential.
We discuss what model-independent conclusions can be drawn from lattice QCD data, and whether a determination is viable from QCD with dynamical quarks with currently available methods.
