Description

The ISOLDE HRS beam line has a unique piece of equipment on it situated after the separation magnets called ISCOOL, an radio frequency quadrupole with cooling gas. Here, we interlace the gas cooling techniques with bunching capabilities to produce bunched beams  with  lower transverse emittance. This talk will describe the design and operation of this device with a description of the operation with the intent to give the audience a better understanding of how it influences the downstream beam. Included in this talk there will be a brief glimpse  on the recent testing and preliminary result from the investigations carried out during the start-up of ISOLDE this year and the construction progress of the dedicated testing station, Offline 2 .
