Name
The problem was the subtitle which smelled like a workshop. Need to clarify that this is a discussion with developers, not a training. "Users'" might be misleading, too. Undecided on "ROOTCon" versus fix this by a better subtitle ("meet the devs" / "shape future of data analysis", "meet the community"). Maybe "ROOT Evolution Workshop".
Panels
Chandler suggested to introduce panels: saves time, focuses discussion.
Workshop duration
Agreed to keep it at 4 (or 3.5) days public +1 day dev workshop. Some participants said they would come only for "the relevant part" if it's 5 days.
Number / length of presentations
No agreement to have posters pr parallel sessions. Agreed to have fewer but longer talks to reduce switch time. During next workshop's submission, ask whether people need to present to be able to participate; consider merging those that can participate without presentation.
Have overview talks given by younger people, to reduce overlap between overview and technical talks and have less presentations.
Discussion and break times were reported as too short. But to some extent that's good for discussion: we shouldn't resolve things at the workshop, but have enough time to come up with ideas / follow-up questions etc. Axel will create post-workshop survey to probe this.
Misc
Proposal to have a hackathon as part of the dev workshop
Introduce subgroups to synthesize feedback before the workshop, instead of requiring presentations per person providing feedback
Agreed to add a "Newbies' question" section to the forum, where people can delete their post once done.
Missing
We felt we were missing participants from the CS side of things, devs of relevant peripheral projects (GooFit etc); mini-framework people, also from math mini-frameworks; nuclear physics people, astronomy. Get LIGO next time!
Missing topics: feedback on training
Future venues
Pursuing FNAL, alternatives are Princeton, Flatiron Inst / NY.
