Progress on next generation rad-hard optical links for Beam Instrumentation (BE-BI) applications 45m

We present an update on the development of next generation radiation-hard single-mode optical links for the Beam Instrumentation Group (BE-BI), developed in collaboration with the EP-ESE Group.
Core of the link is a custom optical transceiver (SM-VTRx) intended to be plugged onto the GBT-based Expandable Front-End (GEFE) board, or its successor that will use the low power GBT. The project targets LS3 and onwards upgrades of SPS and LHC.
The presentation focuses on latest developments that address the high data volume per fiber required in some of the applications. Demonstration of transmitter operating at 10 Gbps and study of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) architectures will be presented. Moreover, solutions for housing the SM-VTRx module into standard SFP metal chassis will be shown. The last parts of the talk presents the planning for radiation tolerance validation of Lasers and optical MUXs/DEMUXs.
