Abstract | 6D supergravity and F-theory geometry provide compatible frameworks for a well-defined notion of genericity for matter representations. Generic matter types depend on global gauge group structure, giving insight in particular into the distinction between theories with gauge group SU(3) x SU(2) x U(1) and those with SU(3) x SU(2) x U(1)/Z_6. | ||||||||||
