MP3 meeting on 13 January 2010

News from the hardware commissioning meeting on 12.01.10:
The powering tests will resume next Monday 18 January with the QPS individual system tests done from the control room. The MP3 team will start the shifts accordingly to the last planning together with the QPS team. EPC will not be on shift as there are no many tests to supervise by them and they can all be grouped.

A table showing the open issues from last year is attached to the minutes. Most problems fall in three categories:
Other issues are known and have been already discussed in MP3.

The direction of the panel after the hardware commissioning at 3.5 TeV is under discussion among the management. We should have news in the weeks to come so that we can prepare to changes if necessary.

M. Koratzinos presented a proposal to measure RRR as a type test by leaving a part of the arc warm-up slowly while putting a current of 10-20A in the circuit and monitoring the voltage through the nQPS system. The proposal should be submitted to CPP to evaluate the time required and the best way to get a low longitudinal gradient between magnets and along the bus-bars. If the measurement principle shows to be useful and the measurements different from what was already measured with the biddle, a full campaign could be necessary in all LHC sectors.  R. Schmidt informed that these tests can be scheduled in sector 81 without impacting the schedule. The panel felt that it is better to do this test in sector 12 where direct comparison with old measurements is possible. Also, having the longest sample will help in stating the relevance of the measurement. The proposal will have to be presented to CPP and the outcome represented in MP3.
