Travel and transportation

Bloomington, Indiana, is located approximately 50 miles south of Indianapolis.

Arriving by air

Participants arriving by air should fly into Indianapolis International Airport. (Please note: Bloomington, IN, does not have a commercial airport, and is not to be confused with Bloomington, Illinois, which does have a commercial airport, but is 200 miles west of Bloomington, Indiana).

Rental cars, limousine, shuttles, taxis and uber/lyft are available at the airport. Rental companies are located inside the airport terminal on the ground level. Limousine and shuttle services to Bloomington operate out of the Ground Transportation Center.

GO Express Shuttle

Scheduled services to Bloomington (every hour on Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday, or every 2 hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday). Stops at several area hotels, including the Indiana Memorial Union (conference venue). Current one way rate is $24.00. Advance reservations recommended. Local transportation

Buses

IU Campus Buses service the campus area, and there is no cost to ride them. Route information is here and there is a live tracking map for all buses.

Bloomington Transit buses run in the downtown and outlying areas, fare $1.00. Routes and schedules can be viewed here.

There are several taxi companies in Bloomington. Note: you cannot flag down a taxi in the streets, you must call them with your location for a pick up.

Bicycles 

Not all the streets in Bloomington are “bicycle friendly” or have bicycle lanes, but bicycles might be an option to explore.
