Abstract

Abstract:

Blockchains and cryptocurrencies have been in headline news since few years for various reasons. Behind these two buzzwords there is lot of technology relying on well-established cryptographical concepts, namely encryption and digital signatures that relies on mathematics and statistical approaches. The lecture will make an attempt to demystify these technologies which have existed since many years and have become possible thanks to wide availability of distributed computing power, and will give examples of concrete applications of these technologies outside the world of HEP.
