Room: 31/3-004 - IT Amphitheatre Software Development and Computer Science are fields for the future, but when you speak to children they are often unfamiliar with some of the fundamentals; what is a program? what is code? what’s a website? At the same time, only a subset of our society is encouraged to play with toys and games that might develop interest or skills in such areas. Many of us participated in mentoring activities for children at the recent Open Days - we will share some experiences from the weekend and talk about other opportunities in the Geneva area. Computing outreach can be hugely enjoyable and impactful (and doesn’t hurt your CV!), maybe it’s something for you?

Developing the Open Days mobile app

Room: 31/3-004 - IT Amphitheatre The Open Days mobile app was the primary tool visitors had to navigate the nearly 300 activities, visit points and talks during the 2019 Open Days. It was downloaded by more than 26.000 people from over 100 countries and recorded nearly 6.3 million interactions. In this talk, we'll explain how we built it and what we learnt from the experience.

Room: 31/3-004 - IT Amphitheatre In this short talk you will hear more about the Open Days ticketing system and its layer-separated architecture. Thanks to this project 75,000 people were able to get their tickets and enter the CERN sites and experiments.

Through your eyes: Reconstruct visual stimuli from EEG signals -- a Brainhack Geneva project

Room: 31/3-004 - IT Amphitheatre Imagine wanting to fly an airplane, but finding current-gen VR lacking in control. Imagine holding a pen, but just not being skilled enough to draw the fine picture in your mind. This is a project about materializing your imagination. Brain-computer interfaces are gradually bridging the gap between human and computer, but to do so they need to understand brain signals. In this hackathon, we explored the reconstruction of what a person sees through DNN techniques, with EEG signals as input, working on state-of-the-art research. Come to hear what we tried!

Life within Emacs: Git Magic

Room: 31/3-004 - IT Amphitheatre Almost everyone is using git for version control (and if not they should be). Git's command line interface is amazing, however there are more efficient ways to use it. Here, I'll briefly demonstrate 2-3 Emacs packages to interact with git repositories and resources for more. All within Emacs of course.

Fluidic Data: Demystifying the art in 5 minutes!

Room: 31/3-004 - IT Amphitheatre **Fluidic Data** is a floor-to-ceiling installation spanning 4 floors of CERN Data Center’s stairwell. It utilizes an interplay of light and water to visualize data flow from the 4 LHC experiments. In this talk, we take a closer look at some of the basic elements of this art-piece.

Findings about the 2019 CERN mailing awareness campaign

Room: 31/3-004 - IT Amphitheatre Damages done by phishing mails have increased over the years. The user is at risk. Hence, with general anti-phishing awareness training, that tends to become more and more popular, a new approach has been made, even for private persons, to keep the mail security awareness of people on a higher level. What are the results of conducting such campaigns at CERN? Which groups at CERN are more susceptible to phishing and why?
