Present: Graeme Stewart, Danika Macdonnell, Kilian Lieret, Martino, Matt Bellis, Samuel Meehan, Sudhir Malik, Erik Bray, Adam Parker
Registration and agenda is in good shape
Open registration on Friday
Tuesday (absolute beginners) is an optional day: unix + python
Drop in session to fix people’s environments if they aren’t there on Tuesday
Experiment Contacts: CMS - David; ATLAS - Adam; LHCb - Graeme; ALICE - Graeme
Posters are ready (see meeting agenda - make sure you get the one with “Registration Opens 28 Feb” at the bottom
At CERN B32, B2, B1, Library, R1 and B40 are covered
Call for helpers - to HSF this week (but quite a few people said yes already). Around 50 attendees; need around 1 helper / 10 people
Discussion with Martino and Erik: Previous carpentry was a bit too basic for some participants:
Erik has some extended numpy tutorial
Martino will prepare something on scikit-learn (some hours to whole afternoon)
Cover also testing
Perhaps go a little bit faster with git, but don’t spend whole day on it because it’s not that interesting (?)
Todo:
Preparing survey - Cloned the previous pre workshop survey https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1adlSwbWHAH7tmXG_TA8pCztqDPpAG8l8uWPHtKILsvk/edit?usp=sharing. Make any changes you feel.
Visitor passes : Adam can get these for the two instructors
Sticky notes : Already have a stack of sticky notes (Adam)
Github organization to host our modules: github.com/hsf-training: So far used by pyhep people, we want to have access to it to and settle for a naming scheme to distinguish our carpentry-style modules from trainings of other formats.
Should think more about recognition of helpers and tutors: Include them on front page of indico of the event. Also: Nice to keep lists of possible tutors of the next events
22 June - 1 July 2020 at LAPP (Annecy) https://indico.in2p3.fr/event/20306/
Will concentrate on code basics, data science and machine learning - Pythonic focus
coding environment and good code practices
version control and collaborative development
Python packaging
scientific libraries for data science and analysis and machine learning
domain specific sessions
Will be advertised to HEP students, but then need:
Uproot+AwkwardArray tutor
Help with machine learning for HEP (tutors, helpers?)
General question about the best way to involve people in events like this? Just use the list?
Sam has a few lists of people who helped / were trained that might be willing to help in the future
We should advertise the training group to them
Keep a directory of people, location, teaching interests
Parallel session (90minutes) for Training WG (Wednesday PM). Need to think about what we want to do there: Talks/Speakers/Discussions/…
Going through blueprint results + discussion -> O(1h)
Springboard off the Blueprint meeting, what modules do we need for HEP?
Sudhir won’t be there: Kilian/Sam?
Should aim for involvement of locals to get a community in Sweden (ask LOC?)
