Updates on all activities 

 

Task 1: Layout and optimization of the linac rf system: 

• Showing the distribution of magnetic field on the cells. Needed for thermal simulations by VDL 

• Power dissipation along the structure inlcuding pulse compressor (with the heads and tails of the resulting pulse) 

• Work in progress: calculating more RF parameters 

 

Task 2: Industrialization: 

• Implementing the answers to their questions in their simulations 

• Want to run new simulations and then would like to join the CLIC module meeting in order to exchange on the results and procedures 

 

Task 5: Integration: 

• Nothing much for integration. Just gathering information to work on the WP deliverables 

• Effort for gathering full machine layout info into one place: XML is working fine, but it might not be the optimal solution. We are looking into alternatives again. 

 

Task 4: Power sources for higher-harmonic systems: 

• Article about the design has been accepted for publication 

• Gyroklystron at high repition rate seems feasible (48 GHz might be too difficult, so focus on 36 GHz after meeting with WP3) 

• Work on looking way to compare different frequencies for the linearizer (option of different harmonics) 

• 5 potential candidates with general parameters passed to Andrea's simulations 

• Work in progress, but promising on general way of comparing the options. Want to publish this as an article. 

• Maybe we can ask VDL to make a mechanical design for a 36 GHz structure but no full design available just yet (including input coupler design) 

 

Task 3: Modulator technology 

• No news on modulators 

 

News from Gerardo: 

• Amendment: we have contacted the EU and prepared everything.  

• Want to submit only ONE amendment for extension, new WP and new partner. 

• Yesterday submitted all documents 

• Wait for feedback from the EU, but process started. 

• From different sources we believe it is more than likely to have the extension of 12 months because of the pandemic 

• WP4: ask people from CPI to give update with 10MW tube through remote meeting in the next WP4 meeting? - yes, that would be a good idea. 

• BI is WP8 now, but we need some heavy interaction between WP8 and WP4 

• We need to see how this goes 

• Marek to contact CPI to next meeting which Walter will setup right after the meeting 

 

Work on the deliverables: 

• Even with the prespectiver of extension we should go forward and fill in the information on the deliverables we already have 

• Marek shows again the attibution of responsibilities for the chapters 

• Drafts are there and ready to be worked on 

• We use Mendeley for the references as we did in the past. 

• For now only a strong recommendation for putting material in until the next meeting.
