Minutes of the LCG Generator Services planning meeting 28.05.2010 Present: W. Pokorski (WP) G. Cosmo (GCO) A. Ryabov (AR) L. Dudko (LD) P. Skands (PS) G. Corti (GC) Connected via EVO: T. Sjostrand (TS) L. Lonnblad (LL) S. Bityukov (SB) Z. Was (ZW) General comments ---------------- WP presented the development that happened in the LCG Generator Services project during the last six months and proposed a plan for the next half a year. There were no major comments concerning the running of the project. All the stakeholders seemed to be satisfied. WP proposed that the special planning meeting could be avoided in the future, and replaced just by regular reports during the monthly meetings. TB commented that indeed the planning meetings can be avoided, but it is nevertheless useful to have some long-term reviews of the project and some planning of work. WP concluded that we will dedicate some of the monthly meetings to review the running of the project. TB asked about the manpower situation, whether it is sufficient. WP answered that the current manpower situation is sufficient for assuring the 'everyday' GENSER support, and performing some validation. In the long term, the new activities mentioned in the presentation, as well as more extended physics validation of the generators, would certainly demand some extra manpower. LPCC will help there, and interested people are very welcome to contact us. GENSER ------ No specific comments. The generators are installed following users' requests. Validation ---------- GC commented that the idea of moving the old b-bbar-specific tests to HepMC Analysis Tool is a good one. The tests are interesting not only for LHCb. HepMC ----- The migration to the new version of HepMC is still an issue. GC commented that it would facilitate the migration to the new version of HepMC if there was a consistent set of software tools build in the nightlies. This was seconded by ZW, and many others. The Generators Services team will work on this. MCDB ---- No specific comments. New Activities -------------- TB asked where the resources of the new tuning activity would come from. WP answered that the present Generator Services team with the support of LPCC will be able to start the development. LPCC is willing to support the project in the long term, so we are looking for people that would be interested to work with us. PS said that the concrete plan for the tuning web resources, together with specific milestones will become clearer in the very near future, with the first design proposal being implemented.
