EFT asymptotics, and fate of the standard model EFT

Effective field theories are ubiquitous in physics, with applications that range from cosmology to condensed matter. An important feature of an EFT is the rate of growth of the number of operators at a given order in the EFT expansion—this is equivalent to the number of independent physical measurements one can make. I will discuss a new analytic probe of EFT—asymptotic formulae for the growth of the number of operators. I will present the application to the standard model EFT, which is an important framework in which to quantify searches for new physics at the LHC.
