Travel and restrictions

Travel:

We recommend that delegates based on the UK travel by train. The nearest stations are Manchester Piccadilly (for long distance trains) and Manchester Oxford Road, both of which are about a 15 minute walk from the venue.

Manchester Airport has good international connections and you can reach the city centre with a roughly 20 minute train ride to Piccadilly station. Alternatively, you may find flights to London being cheaper and faster depending on your origin. From there you can reach Manchester by train from London Euston, which means you need to account for travel from/to the airport to London Euston.

Visas:

If you are unsure whether you need a visa, please check the following website:

https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa/

Please email lp-2021@cern.ch to request a visa invitation letter after you registered on indico. In this email, please state all details that should appear on your letter, including your full name (as in your passport), address, and passport number.

Covid restrictions:

Last updated 8 December 2021.

Please visit the following website to check the latest travel restrictions.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/travel-to-england-from-another-country-during-coronavirus-covid-19

At the time of writing, restrictions for fully vaccinated travellers from most countries only amount to

  • One pre-departure test (does not have to be PCR) to be taken in the two days before you travel.
  • One post-arrival PCR test to be taken latest on the second day after arriving (this can be taken on the day of arrival).
  • Completion of a passenger locator form within 48h prior to departure to England.

Please visit the website above to confirm the exact restrictions applicable to you.

At Manchester Airport, the test provider Collinson offers PCR tests at their walk-through site from 7:00-19:00 every day with same-day results for tests before 18:00 or results by 06:00 for tests taken later. This means that all delegates able to take a test by 19:00 on the Sunday will be able to get a result before the conference. Delegates arriving later should be able to get their result by 18:00 on the Monday, thus enabling them at least to attend the reception in person (and of course follow sessions on Zoom). For details of testing at the airport, please visit

https://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/coronavirus/arrivals-testing/

We do not expect travellers to undergo quarantine in order to attend the conference. In those cases we generally accept remote presentations. Please get in touch with the organisers by email to lp-2021@cern.ch to advise us if you are not able to attend in person.
