Mechanics - Dmitry

PSB - all installed

PS - missing cables, path boxes, panels, PMT ECR is under way. Jonathan says its in progress this week.

SPS tanks and supports and 2/4 scanners installed.

Missing SPS supports. Should be ~1 week.

Kapton cables - Dmitry

Problems identified.

Allectra cable was lost in transport

Vac Com cable should be there one today (AWG28) and one in 1 week.

Plan to protect with sleeves which are approved by VSC.

William will look at the cable that was used in the prototypes.

ADC - David

30 modules received in Feb.

Jose measured all.  All were accepted, with some small outliers.

DAI approved and OK given for the second batch. 2-3 months delivery. All on track.

One was replaced, whilst keeping one extra.

Need to decide a policy on the use of the other boards. Do we give them out, or keep a central store.

Agreed we will mount the ones for the BWS on the boxes. Can flash the firmware remotely for upgrades. For the rest, will discuss in the SLM.

Firmware status - David

Made 12-bit version of capture to make it work reliably. 11 bits of ADC stored.

Issues with MBLT on MEN A25, but not a problem on MEN A20.

David will come back if this is an issue and I will ask for higher priority.

Some discussion on the harmonic (H) number in PS. Currently working on H7 with one bunch, but Ana says this may be H1. H7 will allow for 32 bits total data. Using H1 would need 33 bits.

Keep to H7 specification, with option to go down to H2.

Federico confirmed in the specification that this is currently requesting H7, not H1.

Electronics installation and test - Jonathan

PS - one or two locations to be completed for box and cable installation.

Boxes for fibres are installed. This is on the different side to the 3D model. Agreed that we will modify the 3D model (Dmitry), but ensure that all fibre boxes will be installed on the same (left) side.

Surface installations are waiting for electronics.

4L1H in the PSB needs to be replaced.

4 of the IDC are installed in the PSB

7/8 tested at 20 ms-1 in PSB. All acquisition signal tested in PSB using a light source.

We can read the instrument serial number from the surface.

Still not checked motion or short-circuit in the PS. Should know this by the end of September.

Electronics production - Jonathan

Power board overheating issue fixed. More than 13’000 scans and operation upto 55C.

Previous version took 1min to charge. Had a student designing a fast charger. This would be a future upgrade.

27 boards are assembled and waiting for electronics boards. 10-piece pre-series are ready.

Will not be on time with series installation for the PS IST, but can take 1 unit and install in the PS to test.

Scripts for testing that reduce testing time from 1 day to 15 mins.

Acquisition MPMT amplifier board is available and installation in progress.

1 complete acquisition system electronics available but will need ~3 months to make an interface card to the ADC, so series will not be ready until then.

Change to connection between control and acquisition to use Ethernet which suppresses one VFC board.

Ana - how to set-up the acquisition? Currently not in the software. High voltage control. Should it be in the expert GUI settings?

Will discuss tomorrow (stand-up meeting) how to manage the interface and the requirements.

Software - Ana

3 devices in simulation, one per accelerator.

IPbus does not compile with FESA. Looking to use a solution as in the BGI with a middle layer.

Prepared an interface for GUI development with FESA Web.

Stephen says that Dominic is available to help.

Acquisition changed from 13 to 12 bit - much easier for software.

Planning - starting movement, then will do acquisition. Then calibration.

Stephen asks where calibration data be stored? Federico says that the asset is the base data. Perhaps in EDMS? Needs expert GUI.

Planning - Ana/Discussion

Discuss three ‘levels’ of software operation.

  • Expert mode with local PC.
  • FESA class that allows for basic operations - this should be our minimum target for availability from the first beam and will allow for commissioning with beam of the devices.
  • Operational software can be held over to the OP team, even if it is clear that some future upgrades will always be needed

Ana needs operating hardware to advance on the software development. What does this mean?

Jonathan suggests a daily meeting to follow-up on requirements and to support her software development. This is agreed.

Ana also needs management support to prioritise the large number of requests coming to her.

Federico suggests the following are more ‘important’ than the new BWS software:

  • ‘old' BWS - but these are working.
  • Turn-by-turn SEM in the PSB.
  • L4 BPMs - also working, but may need maintenance.

This needs to be discussed in the SLM.

Ana also needs support from the BWS project for her priorities. Ray says he is happy to provide this as requested.
