Wednesday 7, 4.30 pm: Visit of the Atomium, remnant of the 1958 World Fair and its design of the 50's.
This visit will be followed by the banquet in the top ball of the Atomium (7pm)
Practical information:
Right after the last talk at ~3.30 pm we will go together to the Atomium by metro from ULB Delta station (line 5, direction Erasme) and exit from the metro at Beekkant station. There on the same platform we will take another metro line 6 direction Roi Baudouin and stop at Heyzel station. From there it is a short walk to the Atomium (500 meters) following the indications.
At the Atomium we will all enter together (at 4.30pm-4.45pm). Three guides will welcome us for a guided tour. Inside the Atomium there is also an Exhibition: « A view from my window » which can be visited.
The visit of the Atomium will finish around 6.pm-6.30pm.
We will be allowed to enter the Atomium again to go to the restaurant at 7pm. Before that there might be time to visit the nice park next to the Atomium and cross it to have a view on the Royal main residency Palace, and Japanese Tower (but if you do, watch the time).
Note also that for people interested, the Atomium ticket also allows a visit of the Brussels Design Museum which is 150 meters away up the Atomium avenue (but for that too watch the time).
To return we will take the metro the opposite way: at Heyzel station take metro line 6, direction Elisabeth, and change at Beekkant to take back the line 5, direction Hermann Debroux to get back to the city center or ULB area.
Note that since there will be no time to go back to hotels before going to the Atomium it might be desirable to come to the workshop on this day with a bag as light as possible, not to carry it all the time.
Note also that metro tickets will be provided for these events.
