DESCRIPTION:Are you looking for a solution to your problem\, or a problem
for your solution?\n\nAt CERN\, we develop technologies to fit our needs a
ll of the time. But when we spread these technologies to the rest of the w
orld\, we often find ourselves looking for companies that have challenges
that fit our solutions. Sometimes that works\, other times\, it doesn't.\n
\nOn the 26th of February\, the winners of the Royal College of Art (RCA)
Grand Challenge will be at CERN. 374 students divided into 74 teams have w
orked with tutors from CERN to develop solutions to big problems using the
Design Thinking methodology and we are proud to announce that two of the
winning teams will present their projects to the EM-U community. Afterward
s Paul Anderson\, Dean of the School of Design will present InnovationRCA\
, the incubator for graduate students at RCA. The incubator has an impress
ive track record. 87% of the startups are still active after 5 years and 6
50 jobs have been created through the design-tech startups. \n\nWelcome t
o an inspiring hour showcasing what can be created when you think about th
e problem first\, and then design the solution! \n\n...and as always\, we
head over to R1 at 19:00 for complimentary refreshments and inspiring con
versations. \n\nProfessor Paul Anderson received his MA in Industrial Des
ign from the Royal College of Art in 1986 before working for consultancy f
irms in London and developing his own practice. He has served as an on-ca
ll consultant to government agencies\, and is an active member of SPIE and
ACM SIGGRAPH. Cultural and academic affiliations include Fellowships of t
he Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts\, Manufactures and Commerce
and the Royal Geographical Society. (from RCAs website: https://www.rca.
