1. Previous meeting minutes
-
No minutes yet due to HEPiX travel.
2. Discussing approach on image catalogues next steps.
-
Tony commented that we left the situation in January was that we intended to use the StratusLab Marketplace when it became available. The Marketplace will hopefully have a support future in front of it. Cal has previously reported that he expects it to be taken over by EGI when StratusLab ends.
-
Tony asked if there were comments this.
-
Owen commented that he thinks we should be using the things that the group has developed in parallel with the Marketplace.
-
Martin commented that he thought it was politically important not be seen as reinventing the wheel. He further explained that we would have a hard time convincing people to use something that is nearly accomplished by StratusLab. He would prefer that we adapt StratusLab.
-
Owen commented the he thought StratusLab marketplace was going to be a very important for cloud like systems. He felt that images should be put into both systems. He thought we had several things to offer in terms of security that the marketplace does not. He mentioned that stratus lab didn't offer a mechanism for a site to subscribe to a list of images, nor the possibility of dealing with expired image lists.
-
Tony commented that in January the discussion revolved around the image list being a list of pointers into the Marketplace.
-
Owen fully supports the idea of including in the image list a pointer to the Marketplace, but not making it an outright requirement.
-
Tony commented that there is no commitment from CERN management to support the VMIC. Owen commented that he is only mandated to work on the image subscription tools until the end of the year.
-
Tony commented that we should definitely evaluate Marketplace relative to what we have.
-
Owen commented that there is not concept of an image list in the marketplace, and Tony agreed that list must be created outside the marketplace.
-
Owen said that if you have an image list then the marketplace is not essential.
-
Tony commented that sites will likely need to run the images contained in an amalgam of endorsed image lists, thus necessitating a local catalogue of some kind.
-
Michel commented with in the marketplace images expire.
-
Tony commented that we really need an end to end test of the system to bring up his confidence that we have something that does work together.
-
ASGC, CCIN2P3, PIC were interested in receiving images.
-
Ian G asked how VMIC fits in.
-
Tony commented that the VMIC can help to manage images at a site
Note: There was quite a bit of discussion but I think the basic conclusion was to work together for an end to end test.
3.Scheduling a work day
-
Tony asked that people look at the doodle poll he has posted to find a good date for an online workday that will start at 11:00 CET.
4. Any other business.
-
Tony had a discussion with Simone Campana from ATLAS. They wish to produce a HEPiX style image containing their pilot job framework. They also wish to exploit CVMFS.
-
Owen asked if there would be disk space usage issues with CVMFS (in particular a cache limit bug). Ian Collier commented that he hasn't seen this bug and that Owen should report the issue.
-
Ian G commented that UVic has interest in running ATLAS images.
-
Owen has contact with ILC and they intend to produce images.
-
Michel will present what we are doing in the workgroup at an upcoming EGI meeting. He will use slides from the GSI HEPiX.
5. Next meeting
-
The next meeting will be May 23rd.
