Chinese Film projections this week on Wednesday and Thursday

CERN CINECLUB The Chinese community at CERN, on the occasion of the Chinese New Year, invites everyone to two days of films by Zhang Yimou Wednesday 28 January 2009 at 20:30 - CERN Council Chamber Hero (“Ying xiong”) Directed by Yimou ZHANG (2002) Jet Li, Tony Leung,Chiu Wai, Maggie Cheung, Daoming Chen, Donnie Yen In feudal China, the King of Qin is waging a bloody campaign to conquer the entire land. He has been made a target of three dangerous assassins: spear-wielding Sky, and the lovers Broken Sword and Flying Snow. One day word comes that he has nothing left to fear; a prefect known only as Nameless has killed all three assassins. Nameless is called to the palace and asked to recount the tale of how he accomplished this amazing feat. After he tells his story, however, the King notices some flaws in it. Thursday 29 January 2009 at 20:30 - CERN Main Auditorium Not one less (“Yi ge dou bu neng shao”) Directed by Yimou ZHANG (1999) Minzhi Wei, Huike Zhang, Zhenda Tian, Enman Gao, Zhimei Sun In a remote mountain village the teacher must leave for a month, and the mayor can find only a 13-year old girl, Wei Minzhi, to substitute. The promises her an extra 10 yuan if there's not one less student when he returns. Within days, poverty forces the class troublemaker, Zhang Huike, to leave for the city to work. Minzhi, possessed of a stubborn streak, determines to bring him back. She enlists the 26 remaining pupils in earning money for her trip, hitches to Jiangjiakou City and begins her search. The boy, meanwhile, is there, lost and begging for food. Minzhi's stubbornness may be Huike and the village school's salvation. Original version Mandarin with English subtitles Entrance free
