LHCb UK Student Seminar: CODEX-b
"
Most theories of the microscopic world predict the existence of particles with very long lifetimes, but these long lifetimes also make such particles very hard to detect. Because of this, long-lived particles remain one of the least explored regions where physics beyond the Standard Model could be hiding. I’ll give an overview of long-lived particle searches and why they are so tricky, before describing CODEX-b: a proposed extension of the LHCb experiment which could greatly increase its sensitivity to long-lived particles.
