will take place from Aug 21 to 26, 2022 at Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany.

The summer school events include:

  • Talks and lectures on hot topics in theoretical and observational astrophysics, including dark matter, black holes and their shadows, neutron stars, gamma ray bursts and many more!
  • Collaboration sessions to initiate and foster research activities among the participants
  • Cultural events to experience Frankfurt

The talks and lectures will be given by renowned researchers in theoretical and observational astrophysics:

  • Prof. Luciano Rezzolla (Goethe University)
  • Prof. Dr. Camilla Hansen (Goethe University)
  • Dr. Christian Fromm (University of Würzburg)
  • Dr. Raphaël Duque (Goethe University)

All students (Bachelor, Master, PhD), postdocs and early career researchers who are interested to learn about and explore hot topics in theoretical and observational astrophysics are invited to participate in the EXPLORE summer school!

There is a registration fee of 100€ to cover local expenses. The number of participants is limited to 40.

EXPLORE stands for "EXPeriential Learning Opportunity through Research and Exchange”. It is the first German-Canadian student research collaboration in theoretical astroparticle physics and brings together students from Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany, York University, Canada, and the University of Toronto, Canada. The EXPLORE project is mentored by five faculty supervisors:

  • Jürgen Schaffner-Bielich (Goethe University, Germany)
  • Laura Sagunski (Goethe University, Germany)
  • Nassim Bozorgnia (University of Alberta, Canada)
  • Saeed Rastgoo (University of Alberta, Canada)
  • Sean Tulin (York University, Canada)

The EXPLORE project is supported by the Academic Innovation Fund (AIF) at York University, Goethe University QSL (``Quality Assurance in Teaching'') funds, the DFG Collaborative Research Center CRC-TR 211 “Strong-interaction matter under extreme conditions” and the State of Hesse through the research cluster ELEMENTS. The workshop is also supported by the city of Frankfurt am Main via the city partnership with Toronto.
