Description

The DAMA/LIBRA experiment has been reported to observe an annually modulating signal compatible with the expected dark matter (DM) event rate for more than two decades. However, these results have not been confirmed by any other direct DM searches, emphasizing the need for a model-independent validation using the same detector material: sodium iodide(NaI) crystals. Cryogenic Observatory for SIgnals seen in Next-generation Underground Searches (COSINUS) will provide a reliable comparison with DAMA/LIBRA by operating NaI as cryogenic calorimeters. COSINUS is expected to begin taking data at the beginning of 2024. In this presentation, we will present its key features and challenges including its current status, and future goals.
