Description
We report the effect of inserting LaMnO$_3$ and La$_{0.45}$Sr$_{0.55}$MnO$_3$ buffer layers on the magnetic properties of epitaxial ultrathin La$_{0.8}$Sr$_{0.2}$MnO$_3$ films on SrTiO$_3$(001) substrate. The LaMnO$_3$ induces a bulk-like magnetic moments for La$_{0.8}$Sr$_{0.2}$MnO$_3$ down to 1uc thickness, the La$_{0.45}$Sr$_{0.55}$MnO$_3$ induces antiferromagnetic order on the first 3uc La$_{0.8}$Sr$_{0.2}$MnO$_3$ and bulk-like moments at larger thicknesses. In both cases, the bulk-like moment is confirmed by a linear increase in the magnetization [Figure 1(b)], with a slope m=3.8 µB/Mn. XMCD measurements confirm our magnetic results; XLD demonstrate the presence of an orbital reorganization at 3-4uc. We attribute the full spin polarization of the La$_{0.8}$Sr$_{0.2}$MnO$_3$ films to a charge carrier transfer into the adjacent buffer layer.
