Science Festival "Spaceship Earth" 2025 at Vilnius University

The Vilnius University Lithuanian Particle Physics Consortium brings together researchers from Vilnius University and other institutions to contribute to international high-energy physics projects, particularly at CERN. The consortium’s mission is to advance particle physics research in Lithuania, promote collaboration with global scientific centers, and engage students and the wider public in cutting-edge science.

During this virtual visit, participants will get a rare behind-the-scenes look at the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector—one of the world’s most advanced particle physics experiments, located 100 meters underground at CERN in Switzerland. The aim of the visit is to introduce the public to the goals and significance of the CMS experiment, provide insight into the fundamental questions it helps to answer—such as the nature of matter and the origins of the Universe—and to inspire curiosity through direct exposure to real scientific environments.
