Description
In the framework of the HL-LHC Coordination Group, two efforts are presently running in parallel. One of the two is to provide to the experiments an as precise as possible description of the event multiplicity probability distribution (pile-up density) expected for the HL-LHC baseline or possible variants. The other one is to assess these inputs in terms of useful luminosity for HL-LHC, use them to guide the design optimization of the Phase II detectors of ATLAS and CMS, and iterate accordingly with the machine for further optimization on either side. A status report of the first effort will be given, with a first idea for a possible new variant of the machine, a first investigation on the impacts on beam dynamics (beam-beam effects) and a first brainstorming discussion expected from the participants (interest of the experiments, impact on HL-LHC hardware in particular crab-cavity, heat-load deposition and evacuation.)
