Mono-Higgs discussion: ATLAS/CMS discussion on mono-Higgs

• Present:

  • Benedikt, Eiko, Koji, Lars, Oleg, Uli

• The scope of the paper was discussed

  • Generally, everybody agrees to have a scope as outlined above

• Split of material was discussed

  • Preliminary splitting decided, see outline above

  • General principle is to not duplicate labor

• Additional material for paper:

  • explicit grid recommendation

    • not mentioned explicitly in the email by the LHC DM WG

    • but part of previous white paper

  • Oleg will confirm with the organisers that we want it in

• Discussion about the maximum range of tan(beta)

  • The large difference between fixed order results from Uli and MG results from Lars not yet understood but high up in Uli’s priority list for next weeks

  • For the time being go wiht tanb<10 and then wait for the outcome of Uli’s study

  • Generally, for mono-h not superexciting because bb provides moderate additional sensitivity, i.e. what is excluded with gg production is certainly excluded including bb

• Question whether the SMM should be part of the white paper

  • Needs to be discussed in wider forum with LHC DM WG organisers

  • General feeling that including SMM would create a feeling of a disbalanced paper given that the amount of studies which went into it is only a fraction of the 2HDM+a model

  • The 2HDM+a model is complex and including another model may not add to the clarity of the paper

  • Uli pointed out that the only signature that the model has beyond the 2HDM+a is VBF DM production

Layout of contribution

• a short (1-2 paragraph) description of your most recently published analysis

  • very brief, outline main discriminant observables + strategy

  • [ATLAS+CMS]

• A few kinematic plots showing the behaviour of variables that are most relevant for your analysis as a function of the model parameters

  • Essentially motivating the choice of the scan paramers

  • the central part of the contribution

  • parton-level plots showing the kinematic dependence like on on p7 of https://indico.cern.ch/event/678491/contributions/2778773/attachments/1552383/2439419/2017_11_03_WhitePaper_2HDMa_monoh_BRANDT.pdf

    • parton-level since this is what was used to study the sensitivity to the model and to derive the grid

  • [CMS: angle parameters sint and tanb (plots+text) and lambdas (for lambdas probably only text)]

  • [ATLAS: mass parameters mA ma mH]

• Total and fiducial cross-section at parton level for the same grids

  • For (mA,ma) plane only (representative illustration)

  • [ATLAS since the grid is based on Lars’ studies]

• Signal efficiency at parton level with simplified analysis-like cuts for grids

  • For (mA,ma) plane only (representative illustration)

  • [ATLAS since the grid is based on Lars’ studies]

• (if available) sensitivity at parton level for the same grids

  • No…

• Recommendation for the final scan including exact points (to be confirmed with LHC DM WG organisers):

  • (mA,ma) plane

  • (ma,tanb) plane

  • sint 1D slices for representative mA,ma points

Mono-Z discussion

MonoZ_Whitepaper_151117.pdf

People Present

Yicheng, Koji, Chris, Alison, Michel, Ashraf, Andreas

Scope of contribution

• Kinematic distributions
  • Common variables: MET, Z PT, DeltaPhi(Z,MET)
  • Leptonic only:
    • Something sensitive to Z polarization, e.g. cos(delta_phi (l-,Z)) in Z frame
  • Hadronic only:
    • Jet properties, e.g. jet mass (only those that are ~reliable at particle level)
• Possible further content not yet decided on:
  • Significance estimation
  • Comparison of kinematic shapes to DMF pseudoscalar model
  • Inclusion of tan(beta) scan (would have to also produce b enduced)

Generation technical details

• Particle Level
• No ME jet for leptonic case
• Full process in MG, gluon only, no Madspin (generate g g > xd xd~ l+ l-)

Action items

1. Check interest from CMS mono-V(had)
2. Converge on selection for hadronic and leptonic analyses
3. Synchronize data cards and generation details
4. Choose parameter points to look at
5. Meet again in 1 or 2 weeks to discuss progress
