Description

The CMS detector will undergo an extensive upgrade in order to accommodate the challenging pileup and radiation environment at the HL-LHC.  Together with the time spread of the luminous region, precision timing for charged particles can be exploited in order to significantly mitigate the impact of the increased pileup, as well as providing additional physics capabilities.  The expected impact on physics performance will be discussed, as well as the  detector technologies, status and plans for the addition of a MIP Timing Detector as part of the CMS upgrade for HL-LHC.
