Q2 2026 Report and Planning
Round Table
Marciej Szymanski:
-
Expressed interest in RNTuple attributes asking whether they can be tested even if they are experimental. Entities in the Experimental name space are for their own nature to be tested: ROOT encourages the testing of attributes and is eager to hear feedback!
ATLAS: Excused (ATLAS Week)
CMS: Excused
ALICE: Anton Alkin
-
RNTuple directly integrated; essentially ready. Waiting for the green light of the management to switch.
-
ROOT versions: Can't comment in detail on version plans, but ALICE is most likely flexible to switch to the latest during LS3
-
RDataLoader: Will organise a meeting with RDataLoader developers in August
-
Level of SOFIE usage: No widely known use cases, but possibility to check in more detail. They have the possibility to use ONNX.
-
Could ONNX loading be more configurable?
LHCb: Ben Couturier
-
RDataLoader: Happy with how the ROOT liaison advertised it.
-
Object auto registration: Marco is aware of the possibility to test it.
-
Level of SOFIE usage: To be checked
Dune: Andrew Olivier
-
Release schedule: Using 6.28 currently, will try moving to 6.40
-
RDataLoader: Looks interesting
-
TDirectory auto registration testing: Will bring up the feature with the relevant experts
-
Not aware of SOFIE usage for now
-
Can token authentication be used with the "roots:" protocol?
A: Need to check in detail, but "roots:" is an old protocol. Likely better to use the "root:" protocol and let XRootD handle the authentication.
FCC: Excused
FairROOT: Florian Uhlig
-
RNTuple integration into FairROOT ongoing. 20% gains.
-
RDataLoader: Interesting for experiments, but not necessarily for the FairROOT framework. Will forward the information to experiments.
-
Ownership: Looking into it, cleaning up the code.
-
SOFIE: Not aware of use cases, but will discuss this in the context of FairROOT.
-
New histograms interesting for the experiments. Will see how to proceed.
-
Q1: Is ROOT compiling on macOS27?
-
Yes, fixes are here have been merged here: https://github.com/root-project/root/pull/22625
-
These are available in ROOT master and v6.40
-
-
Q2: What is CERN doing about the AI company crawlers?
-
Deployed anubis to limit the rates on heavily visited services. See https://security.web.cern.ch/reports/en/monthly_reports/2026/2026-05.shtml
