Meeting Notes

  • Status of Quadrupole Magnet Measurements
    • Measurements are proceeding smoothly; no rack/system operational errors observed.
    • Two quadrupole magnets have been measured; repeatability checks are planned.
    • A polarity issue was found; reversed input/output labels led to powering the magnet in reverse, yielding a negative instead of a positive quadrupole.
    • The team stressed strict polarity checks and correct coil connections for quadrupole measurements.
    • Crane operator unavailability at GSI delays further measurements until 2026-06-29.
      • Conclusion: Current setup is functional; enforce the polarity procedure. Data collection resumes once the crane is available.

 

  • Onboard vs. Post-Processing Data Analysis
    • Onboard FFMM analysis uses two FDIs (main and compensated) and omits the third FDI.
    • Raw data includes all three FDIs; full offline analysis will extract complete harmonics.
    • Kn file consistency is required; remove or share extra Kn files on the PC to ensure consistency.
    • Online Kn settings serve fast feedback only; final results will rely on post-processing with the selected Kn files.
      • Conclusion: Proceed with post-processing using consistent Kn files; onboard outputs are indicative only.

 

  • Python Post-Processing Workflow and Outputs
    • A slightly modified CERN Python script will be shared to analyze LDM datasets for quadrupoles.
    • Steps:
      • Use a KN file with the third column as the third FDI.
      • Input coil resistance (from patch panel measurement) to correct for voltage divider effects.
      • Apply measured level meter offsets (connection and non-connection sides).
      • Analyze raw files to generate Excel outputs with main field, angle, level meter, bn, an, and displacement.
      • Aggregate positions into a final Excel template, including coil length, reference radius, positions, current, and field.

 

  • Data Sharing and Collaboration Setup
    • An Indico page will host procedures, files, and references.
    • A CERNBox folder will store live datasets and documents; write access will be granted to relevant members.
    • GitLab may be used for code later; initially, CERNBox is sufficient.
      • Conclusion: Centralized sharing via CERNBox/Indico agreed; access was provided during the meeting.
  • Scheduling and Availability
    • Daryl will be on vacation next week, returning on 2026-07-06 at CERN to focus on stretched wire tasks and metrology materials.
      • Conclusion: A short follow-up meeting is planned after initial processing; the broader measurement campaign resumes after 2026-06-29.
