Young Physicists Colloquium: Beauty of Physics
- Do we want to pick a topic first and then pick speakers?
- Mounia suggested two topics:
- 3 speakers to discuss Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity in Africa Physics.
- 3 speakers to give some of tomorrow's physicists a little bit of inspiration, to help tackle the widely publicised "decline in physics".
We all agreed to choose the second topic because it would describe well the title of our colloquium.
- Mounia suggested splitting the colloquium into 4 sections.
- A short introduction of each speaker
- Q&A
- Free discussion
- Last statement
- Mounia started a ACP2023 EC Planning Folder to plan out potential topics and speakers: ASP2023 Early Career Sessions
- Want to prioritize those who can speak
- Do we want to have one from ACP IOC on the colloquium? Dr. Kétévi as a suggested name [ Mounia]
- Prof. Mmantsae Moche Diale (University of Pritoria) as a suggested name [Chilufya]
- Prof. Farida Fassi (Mohemmed V University) as a suggested name [Diallo]
- As an ACP2023 EC organizers, we should come up with some questions to lead the discussion (the majority of the time for the Discussion) -Set up a shared file to collect input for questions and discussion points [Mounia]
- This may help with the fact that some people will not be sufficiently oriented enough to be able to ask questions
- We can also create a google forms with this following text: [If you have a question for our Speakers and wish to remain anonymous, you can submit your questions to this form: Question Submission Form]
- Set up a google form to collect input for questions, Add the link to the ACP2023 Indico event page.
- Advertise it to list of participants before the event
Session on “Early career African Physicists”
- Should we can take over the name of "Ask an ASP Alumni" [Mounia] Or there are any other suggestions
- Listen to an ASP Alumni [Benard]
- 8 ASP Alumni will share their ideas and stories through a defined topic to answer two questions:
- Where are you now?
- What happened to you after you attended ASP?
- Each speaker will highlight his/ her own experience and perspectives.
- The expected time for each contribution is 10' min.
- Mounia suggested a few names BUT It would be nice if we could have some sort of diversity in terms of ASP editions and physics fields.
- Claire Lee, ASP2010 [Diallo]
- Brenda Namumba [Benard]
- Still need an Alumni from ASP2014, ASP2020 and ASP2022
- Chilufya suggested to divided this session into 2 sub-sessions
- Career path 5' min per each speaker: 5" X 8
- Q&A 40"
- All attendees agreed to have Mounia on the list of speakers and someone else lead the session: Chilufya as a suggested name.
- Chilufya said she often shared her story
CLOSING REMARKS:
We will add our inputs to the shared folder by the end of this week.
