      News from PUMA

      Speakers: Mark Julian Kirschbaum (CERN, Technische Universitaet Darmstadt (DE)), et al.
      • Successfully tested different components (vacuum, TPC, trap electrodes)
      • Focus for next weeks: get beam permit, cooling magnet, take antiproton beam this summer
      • Design for transfer beamline between RC6 and PUMA main frame finished (consists of pulsed drift tube, quadrupole lenses and Einzel lenses)
      • RC7 and experimental zone was presented earlier to the ISOLDE integration meeting, zone needs power, cooling water, pressurized air
      • Proposed timeline: start beam at AD as soon as possible, installation of RC7 starting in summer, to be finished in Q4 2025, commissioning of RC6 and RC7 slated for Q1/2 in 2026, test transport or real transport planned for Q2/3 2026. -> co-activities during the earlier ISOLDE LS3 to be coordinated with the ISOLDE LS3 activities

      • ZQNAs are ready, but kept on storage until installation in the machine (need one week of preparation)
      • Layout DB to be done by BE-OP and BE-CSS
      • Simulation of the dynamic part of the beamline operation to be discussed offline

      • Procurement well under way, many pieces available already or expected soon
      • Vacuum acceptance tests: first QP tested (outgasses a lot since it is the standard design), bender was tested and accepted, zqna's were already tested before being stored
      • Vacuum layout is 100% defined, to solve helium propagation probelem, two extra irises were added to the design, booster turbo pumps added to last two turbo pumps for better compression ratio
      • Installation planned for end of 2025, pending on availablity for all beamline equipments;
      • Request for collecting vacuum signals required by users (PLCs, etc)
      • Still need to define where to place primary pumps
    • 10:40 10:50

      • Parts are being machined, components are ordered
      • Parts delivery slated for september
      • Assembly, calibration, ~ 1.5 months -> tentative delivery date in November ' 25; collector plates probably Q1 2026
      • Calibration setup to be reused from HIE-ISOLDE DBs
      • Racks already installed on mezzannine, TDC is installed, FESA class still needs to be adapted
      • MagneToF high-gain and low-gain modes needed new developements, ongoing, will be integrated in already available PAM infrastructure
      • FESA class requirements discussed with users, is feasible with provided hardware
    • 10:50 11:00

      - no updates from transport as further information on weight distribution of the final PUMA layout is needed to design ISOLDE load spreader (at least 3 months lead time)
