#25 AD E-Cooler Meeting: EN-EL infrastructute update

1. Reuse existing HV cables, needs rerouting

Comment by R. Mompo: Our consolidation request to install a WIC system for the AD ring + FTA + DI and DR transfer lines has been approved this summer. It  does not comprise the E-Cooler. For this purpose, I made the following requests to EN/EL

Discussion:

1. DC cables

• DIC has been submitted for installation of the new DC cables
  
• For the correctors, the power converters won't be ready in time so the idea is to use the existing ones plus some delta electronica modules (provided by EPC, Yves confirmed yesterday). So question to EN-EL is if we keep the old cables
  
• Gunn will prepare a DEC request by the end of 2024

 

2. HV cables:

• Suggestion is to also replace the old HV cables because the insulation might already be degrading after 25 years of operation. The reason we decided to keep the old HV cables is because they are non standard (40 kV, PVC-free, Halogen-free). Gunn will check with Jose Gascon for possibility to get new cables with cost estimate.
  
• 5x high current HV cables (2 filament+ cathode+pot+spare), 4 thin low current cables (grid, decelerator, repeller+spare)
  
• Total length is 50m, so one needs 250 m high power HV cables and 200m of low power HV cables. Could cost between 10-20 kCHF, just the cables.
  

 

3. WIC and interlock:

• No WIC has been requested yet for the new AD e-cooler (R. Mompo)
• Alex and Adriana will review the interlock design and provide functional specification to R. Mompo
• DIC for WIC will be requested by R. Mompo, therefore the one requested by Gunn ( DIC: RQF2586241 ) should be closed.

 

Actions:

1. Provide DEC by end of 2024 (Gunn)
   
2. Provide interlock/WIC functional specifications (Alex, Adriana)
   
3. Check possibility to get new HV cables, cost and timeline (Gunn, Jose Gascon)
