COMETA Colloquium: Jiayin Gu

Europe/Zurich
Description

This event is organised by the COMETA COST Action, a EU-funded networking initiative that promotes knowledge sharing and cooperation across the theory, experiment, and ML communities, with the aim of improving the measurement and interpretation of multiboson processes at the LHC.

      Positivity bounds for phenomenology 1h

Certain dimension-8 operator coefficients in the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) are subject to positivity bounds, obtained by requiring a UV completion that obeys the fundamental principles of quantum field theory. In this talk, I will give a brief introduction to positivity bounds, explain why it is both interesting and challenging to test these bounds at colliders, and discuss certain processes that can be useful for such tests. I will also discuss the impacts of loop contributions to the interpretation of positivity bounds.

Jiayin Gu obtained his PhD at the University of California, Davis in 2014. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at IHEP, DESY and Mainz before joining Fudan University in 2021 as a faculty member. In recent years, his work mainly focuses on the collider phenomenology of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT).
