Description

Beamline for Schools (BL4S) is a physics competition open to high school students from around the world. Participants are invited to prepare a proposal for an experiment to be conducted at the beamline of a particle accelerator, either at CERN (European laboratory for particle physics in Geneva, Switzerland), DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron in Hamburg, Germany) or ELSA (Elektronen-Stretcher-Anlage in Bonn, Germany). In 2026, we will have five winning teams joining the previous facilities. 

The celebration ceremony will take place in a hybrid format, on-site at CERN, DESY, ELSA and online. On-site participants at CERN, DESY, and ELSA will have the opportunity to visit the BL4S experimental areas after the ceremony and to join the celebration reception.

      On-site participants at CERN, DESY and ELSA have the unique opportunity to visit the BL4S experimental areas. This is a great occasion to learn more about the winning experiments of BL4S 2026!

      CERN: Building 157 (East Hall)
      SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: closed, flat shoes; above 16 years old; not pregnant; no Active Implantable Medical Devices (AIMD): pacemaker, defibrillator, electronic medicine dispenser, hearing aid, ferromagnetic implant. Note that we will provide you with safety helmets to be worn during the visit.

      DESY:
      SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: closed, flat shoes; above 16 years old; no Active Implantable Medical Devices (AIMD): pacemaker, defibrillator, electronic medicine dispenser, hearing aid, ferromagnetic implant.

      ELSA:
      SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: closed, flat shoes; above 16 years old; no Active Implantable Medical Devices (AIMD): pacemaker, defibrillator, electronic medicine dispenser, hearing aid, ferromagnetic implant.
